LOWELL -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze with acrid black smoke in the Belvidere neighborhood early Saturday.
The fire apparently started in an office area of a garage bay at 14 Perry St., said Deputy Fire Chief Phil Lemire.
The building has several automotive businesses, including three with Concord Street addresses and the one on Perry Street. The building is next to the new Fin's Scrub Free Menu car wash.
The fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. and the second alarm was sounded about 15 minutes later.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 2 a.m.
The fire was under investigation and Lemire could not immediately give a cause.
Town Taxi moved out of the garage bay that caught fire about two days ago, according to one source.
Businesses on the Concord Street side of the building include Victoria Auto Service and Fred's Garage.
The fire did not reach the Concord Street businesses, though smoke filled the shops.
