Group 3 handles 2 alarm house fire
Posted On: Nov 19, 2009
An afternoon fire damaged an apartment building at 53 and 55 Nesmith St. yesterday.

Firefighters say the fire was caused by an electrical problem on the first floor or basement of the building. They do not suspect foul play.

Three units inside the three-story home were damaged by smoke and fire, said Deputy Fire Chief Phil Lemire. All residents of the building were forced to sleep somewhere else last night, however, as power was shut off to the building.

When firefighters first arrived on the scene, a live power line fell off the side of the building and landed on a fire truck. Fire officials were forced to use a backup truck until National Grid workers secured the live wire.
